The ApHC 2000 Trail Rides

MOSCOW, ID -- History, adventure, and trails full of color await you as the Appaloosa Horse Club kicks off the century with their trail rides of 2000. The ApHC will be the host for three trail rides this year: Apache Land, Chief Joseph, and Daniel Boone (Sheltowee). Each ride will offer an adventure in the great outdoors, delicious catered food, live entertainment, and the opportunity to meet many friendly people.

Apache Land Trail Ride

"The Land of Enchantment" is the site for the Apache Land Trail Ride scheduled for May 21-27, 2000. You will be surrounded by magnificent pine trees and the striking landscape of the Cibola National Forest near Gallup, New Mexico. This ride is open to anyone with or without a horse and all breeds are welcome to partake in the week-long affair. Each day will offer a different trail with many wonderful surprises and exciting exploration as you travel along the scenic continental divide in the high desert. Retracing the steps once taken by the Apache Indians is only part of the adventure. Each day when the ride is complete, everyone will meet at the base camp, once the home of an old Army radar station, and relax during a delicious meal and live entertainment. This year's entertainment agenda will include the annual talent contest, music, bonfires, and dancing. You may also want to tour the Gallup, New Mexico area, where you can visit many historical sites and take advantage of some great shopping opportunities. The Apache Land Trail Ride is a great way to cure your spring fever! The application deadline is May 5, 2000 and the fees are as follows: ApHC Members--$280, Non-Members--$305, Non-Riders--$230.

Chief Joseph Trail Ride

One of the most beautiful segments of the Chief Joseph Trail Ride will commence in Cooke City, Montana on July 30, 2000 and conclude in Clarks Fork Canyon, Wyoming on August 5, 2000. The seven-day historical ride will retrace a segment of the 1,300-mile path the Nez Perce Indians once covered as they were fleeing from the U.S. Cavalry in 1877. Completing the entire trail takes 13 years, and this year marks the thirty-sixth year, which is the tenth segment of the third time covering the entire trail. This year the ride will take you on an exciting adventure through the magnificent Beartooth Mountains where you will be surrounded by fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery. The pristine wilderness will offer photo opportunities at every corner. At the end of each day when it is time to relax, you will enjoy a delightful catered meal and a variety of entertainment to include bonfires, historical speakers, music and dancing. The historical journey of the Nez Perce awaits you on the Chief Joseph Trail Ride. Be sure to register by July 10, 2000 to experience a week of history and fun, and the chance to build lasting friendships. As always, all meals and beverages are provided, as well as horse feed. There will be a physician, veterinarian and farrier available both in camp and on the trail at all times. Only Appaloosas of at least four years of age and ApHC members 12 years and older are allowed to participate on this ride. There is a maximum limit of 300 participants and registration is taken on a first-come-first-served basis. Registration fees are as follows: Adult Rider--$330, Adult Non-Rider--$280, and Youth 12-18--$255.

Daniel Boone (Sheltowee) Trail Ride

This trail ride is named after Daniel Boone who was given the name Sheltowee (Big Turtle) when he was adopted by the Shawnee tribe. The Daniel Boone Trail Ride will be the place to be on September 24-30, 2000 during the most colorful time of year in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Leslie County, Kentucky will be the general location for the last ApHC trail ride of the year. Riders will enjoy many memorable moments while they retrace the steps of "Big Turtle" in the beautiful colors of a Kentucky Autumn. After each day of exploring the Kentucky wilderness, you will come back to base camp for a delicious catered dinner and nightly entertainment which includes guest speakers, live music, and dancing. So saddle up, you won't want to miss the last trail ride of the year! This is not an Appaloosa Horse Club "exclusive" trail ride, therefore you may ride any breed of your choice as long as the horse is at least four-years-old and in good physical condition, and all members and non-members are welcome. The application deadline is September 6, 2000 and the fees are as follows: ApHC Members $280, Non-Members $305, and Non-Riders, $230.
