News from the Appaloosa Horse Club: World Championship Appaloosa Horse Sale A Success

Moscow, ID - November 9, 2000 - The World Championship Appaloosa Horse Sale was held on the evening of November 1, 2000 during the final week of the World Championship Appaloosa Horse Show in Fort Worth, TX. The sale was comprised of two sessions held back to back. Session I was the Preferred Pleasure-Bred Yearling Sale and Session II was the Preferred Show Horse and Breeder's Sale. There were 136 total consignments with 75% sales. The average selling price of the top 5 horses was $9,900 and the top ten averaged $8,330.

This year's World Championship Appaloosa Horse Sale began with the dispersal of the $20,000 Preferred Pleasure Bred Yearling Sale Incentive Fund to the winners which competed in the 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle Class and the 2-Year-Old Snaffle Bit Western Pleasure Class. The Preferred Pleasure-Bred Yearling Sale was established by Segraves & Associates, the sale management company, in 1999 and was designed to create an incentive for pleasure-bred yearlings. This year's Yearling Session featured 33 yearlings that as a result of passing through the sale are now eligible to compete at the 2001 World Championship Appaloosa Horse Show for a special Sale Incentive Purse that, as of this date, exceeds $13,000.

High Selling honors went to Justice Maid Easy, a three-year-old chestnut stallion. He is a son of Maid's Dream and out of a multiple producing daughter of Cowboy Justice. He was consigned by Cindy Fender and sold to Dwight Johnson of N.C. for $12,500. The High Selling Yearling from the Preferred Pleasure-Bred Session was Take Time To Dream, a daughter of Dreamfinder and out of a daughter of Scotch Bar Time. She was consigned by Nancy Lilledahl and sold to Leonard Kendra of Ill. for $9,000.

2001 ApHC Trail Rides

Moscow, ID - November 6, 2000 - History, adventure, and awe-inspiring scenery await those who partake in an Appaloosa Horse Club trail ride. Each ride will offer adventure in the great outdoors, delicious catered food, live entertainment, and the opportunity to meet people with similar interests. In 2001, the ApHC will be hosting three trail rides: Apache Land, Chief Joseph, and Daniel Boone (Sheltowee).

Apache Land Trail Ride. The 18th annual Apache Land Trail Ride is scheduled to take place April 22-28 on the Chihenne Ranch in Winston, N.M. The ranch is a working cattle and horse ranch not far from old gold and silver mines and Indian ruins. This is a base camp ride with great trails and beautiful scenery. Come see N.M. in all it's spring glory! The ApHC provides all meals beginning with dinner on the 22nd and ending with breakfast on the 28th. Horse feed must be provided by the rider. As always, a physician, veterinarian and farrier will be available. You are not required to ride an Appaloosa on this ride, all breeds are welcome to attend. The application deadline is April 6, 2001 and the fees are as follows: ApHC Members--$280 for riders and $230 for non-riders; Non-Members--$305 for riders and $230 for non-riders; Youth (12-18)--$230 for riders and $205 for non-riders.

Chief Joseph Trail Ride. The Chief Joseph Trail Ride retraces, as closely as possible, the path the Nez Perce and their Appaloosas took during their flight from the U.S. Cavalry in 1877. The Chief Joseph Trail Ride is the most prestigious trail ride of its type in the U.S. today. The 2001 ride marks the thirty-seventh year and the eleventh year of the third time through the entire trail. The date for this year's ride will be July 22 - 28. The ride is a progressive system, which means the camp will move each day. The ride will begin in Clark, WY and end in Laurel, MT. As always, all meals and beverages are provided, as well as horse feed. There will be a physician, veterinarian and farrier available both in.
