Weaver Quarter Horse Annual Production Sale Results
The high selling yearling stud at Weaver's sold for $10,750 to Tim and Mary O'Donnell, Whitehall, Montana and their children, Amber and CodyBlue skies and warm temperatures greeted buyers and bidders to the 5th Annual Weaver Quarter Horse Production Sale held Sunday, September 17th in Great Falls, Montana. A large crowd representing 24 states and three Canadian Provinces left standing room only while a fast paced sale was led by auctioneer, Lynn Weishaar of Reva, South Dakota, and pedigree reader, John Johnson of Piedmont, South Dakota.
Stan and Nancy Weaver, owners of Weaver Quarter Horses, have spent the last 26 years developing their own breeding program. The Weaver family settled in Montana in 1888 and their brand was recorded in 1889. Stan and Nancy's children are the fifth generation to ride for the brand. The Weaver's are well known for their foundation bred Quarter Horses with speed, good bone, feet and withers. Their cow sense, cutting ability, disposition, color and outstanding conformation are recognized throughout the industry. They were awarded the Montana Quarter Horse Association Ranch Award in 1997, have been nominated for the prestigious AQHA Best Remuda Award and are recognized as a leading AQHA Breeder Referral Member.
Weavers stallion battery consists of Ima Bit Of Heaven, a four year old red roan son of Smart Little Lena and the great mare Peppys From Heaven; Poco Ima Doc, a 1988 black grandson of Poco Bueno out of an own daughter of Docs Prescription; Poco Doc De Oro, a 1984 buckskin grandson of Poco Bueno and an own daughter of Docs Adonis, Doc Ima Leo, a 1994 buckskin son of Docs Decatholon and a Zaydin's Leo daughter; Go Beckwith Roan, a 1992 red roan son of Beckwith Dun and a Tiny Watch mare. The last foal crop sold out of the late Diamonds Cutter, son of Doc O Dynamite and a Sugar Bars/Poco Dell mare.
Five years ago Weavers teamed up with Treasure State Quarter Horses to put on their first sale. Owner Una Crowley, along with her parents Barb and Ted Crowley, have been valued contributors to the sale. Like Weavers their families have been ranching in the Bear Paw Mountains for many years. They stand two stallions, PC Mr Sun Peppy, a four year old golden palomino by Sun Frost x Peppy San Badger/Sak Em San bred mare and Fire Me A Winner, a 1995 bay stallion by Taylor Jess Tivio out of a KingFritz/ Win Or Lose bred mare.
Sale Averages: 102 lots - $3275. Weanlings: 63 lots - $3252, 27 fillies - $4057, 36 stud colts- $2879, 1 yearling stallion - $10,750, 8 yearlings: $4194, 19 Broodmares - $2763, 11 Saddle horses - $3923.
The high selling horse of the sale at $10,750 was Lot #73, Weavers Doc Ima Poco, a yearling buckskin stallion sired by Doc Ima Leo and an own daughter of Poco Ima Doc. This outstanding stallion prospect sold to repeat buyer Tim O'Donnell, Whitehall, Montana. This young stallion boasted several generations of Weaver Quarter Horse breeding. "Weavers Doc Ima Poco is what our program is striving to achieve," says breeder Stan Weaver, "These Doc Ima Leo colts are going to find their way into the national arena and Poco Ima Doc daughters are going to be very hot property."
The high selling weanling at $9,500 was Lot #4, Weavers Smart Poco, a red dun stud colt sired by Ima Bit Of Heaven and an own daughter of Poco Ima Doc going to horseman John Heinrich of Tucson, Arizona. This athletic colt is proof that the addition of Ima Bit Of Heaven into the stallion battery by Weavers complimented their program.
Weavers Smart Wendy, lot # 5, a bay weanling filly sired by Ima Bit Of Heaven and a granddaughter of Okie Leo/Colonel Freckles caught the eye of several bidders but found her home with Ollie and Janice Pedersen, Bainbridge Island, Washington for $7,600. Pedersen's also purchased the high selling saddle horse, $5,200, Lot # 99, Sequins Shine, a 1987 Palomino mare - Sugar Bars bred. This mare was 100% bomb proof for any rider. She adjusted her ability to the rider's ability. Lot # 16, Weavers San Poco, a dun weanling stud colt sired by Poco Ima Doc and a San Peppy/King bred mare also calls Pedersen's his new owners at a winning bid of $5,750. Weavers thought so much of this big, stout, lined back dun colt that they retained two breeding a year if he is kept a stallion.
Quinn Wilson, Calgary, Alberta, had a good eye when he chose Lot # 39, Weavers Diamond, a bay weanling stud colt sired by the late Diamonds Cutter. Selling for $7,500, this powerful, extremely athletic colt resembles his sire with a tremendous hip and a keen head.
Volume buyers Bill and Connie Nettles, Summit, Mississippi, purchased four Ima Bit Of Heaven weanling fillies. The highest of these, lot #3, Weavers Smart Gem, sold for $7,500. This fancy blue roan has cow and cattiness written all over her. Lot #7, Weavers Roan Heaven, a sharp red roan filly, $6,500, lot #6, Weavers Smart Anita, a catty bay filly, $5,900 and lot #1, Weavers Smart Stormy, $5,000, a classy dun filly all stay together with the Nettles.
Lot #34, Weavers Ima Dawn, found herself Minnesota bound when Jerry Testa was successful in buying this Doc Ima Leo x Raise With Me/Leo bred sorrel weanling filly for $5,750.
Tess Lineback, Brighton, Colorado, purchased lot #19, Weavers Spedita Poco, sired by Poco Ima Doc and an Orphan Drift/ Colonel Freckles bred mare for $5,600. She also took home Lot #53, Weavers Poco Trixie, a Poco Doc De Oro/ Blackburn weanling filly for $5000.
Weavers Sunset Doc, Lot 36, now hails from Weyburn, Saskatchewan with new owner, Randy Jacobs. This buckskin weanling stallion sired by SNW Canadian Sunset (Weaver breeding top and bottom) and an own daughter of Diamonds Cutter had a winning bid of $5,500.
Allen Russell, repeat buyer from Livingston, Montana drew claim at $5,250 to lot #43, Weavers Diamond Jag, a dun weanling stud colt sired by the late Diamonds Cutter and a Jaguar/ Printers Devil bred mare.
Montana stepped up to the plate and purchased the top selling broodmares with lot #82, Okies Whirlin Wendy, a 1988 bay granddaughter of Okie Leo and Colonel Freckles topping the list and finding her new home with repeat buyers Mike and Mary Bennett of Big Timber, Montana for $7,000. She is bred for a 2001 foal to Ima Bit Of Heaven. Lot # 84, More Lena, $5,000. a 1989 sorrel granddaughter of Peppy San Badger and Doc O'Lena going to Robert Hansen, White Sulpher Springs, Montana, Lot # 83 Miss Rocky Chex, a 1984 brown daughter of Wood Chex (King Fritz x Driftwood) and a Del Rio Joe mare went to buyer Cal Thornberg, Rosebud, Montana for $4,900. She was bred back to Poco Ima Doc for a 2001 foal. Lot #77, Twinkles Poco, a 1982 red dun granddaughter of Poco Bueno traveled to Ronan, Montana with new owner Dave Joachim for $4,400. She was bred for a 2001 foal to Poco Doc De Oro.
Next years sale will again be held in Great Falls, Montana on Sunday, September 16th at the fairgrounds. Weavers will be showcasing the get of their newest stallion addition, PC Joes Frost. This 1998 stallion sired by Sun Frost and a Boon Bar/Bar None Joe bred mare joined their stallion line up and his colts are anxiously awaited. "Joe" definitely has a proven pedigree. He will be the sire to watch in the future.
