The Flathead Equestrian Foundation
One of the goals of the Flathead Equestrian Foundation is to "organize, stimulate and encourage horse clinics, fairs, shows and other related activities." In keeping with this charge several educational presentations will be given at the horse fair March 11th, 1995 at Cavanaugh's in the Kalispell Center Mall, Kalispell, Montana. Topics will cover a variety of subjects from equine dentistry to dealing with the IRS.The following day, Sunday March 12th, we are very excited to have an all day seminar on Equine Behavior presented by Dr. Robert M. Miller.
Dr. Miller, a practicing veterinarian from Thousand Oaks, California is a nationally known author and lecturer on the editorial staff of Veterinary Medicine, Modern Veterinary Practice, Western Horseman and Veterinary Forum.
Dr. Miller is well known for his work on imprint training of foals. He has written many articles for Western Horseman. In addition to his seminars he is a popular cartoonist and has produced a number of videos and books.
Dr. Miller has been a major player in the horse training revolution occurring in recent years. Techniques known only to rare master horse trainers in the past are now being taught to all horse owners by such people as Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Pat Parelli, John Lyons and Monty Roberts. The movement is sweeping North America as well as in many other parts of the world.
Dr. Miller has been instrumental in blending the scientific principles of animal behavior with the art of training horses. Understanding the basic principles explains why the methods used by the above trainers work so swiftly and how they enhance performance. Dr. Miller will discuss six specific behavior shaping methods with which, in minutes, horses can be trained or retrained.
By keeping these principles in mind horsemen can successfully adapt the techniques to their own situation, and horse activity.
