Western Washington Reining Horse Association: Sliding Into 1996

Western Washington Reining Horse Association announces their plans for another exciting year of reining. "Each year we try to affect changes which will help our club members grow and will expand our club's horizons," says president Dan Stark. This year the club will be holding their five show series in different locations through out the Puget Sound area and they will be sponsoring two NRHA shows. "We have changed our classes and we are moving our shows around to meet the needs of our club members as well as to encourage new members," show chairman Matt Livengood states.

Started in 1992, the WWRHA has grown to over 130 members averaging 115 runs per show. In 1995 they sponsored the NRHA classes held in conjunction with the Puget Sound Quarter Horse Association's July Show of Shows. In the last two years all club members who qualified in at least three of the five shows received year end awards. In 1995 year end awards included two trophy saddles, silver belt buckles to 1st place, monogrammed jackets to 2nd place, monogrammed reins to 3rd place, monogrammed spur straps to 4th, and gift certificates for 5th through 8th places. "We have made it a point for everyone who qualified to get a year end award. That way it encourages people to get out and show, and get something back for their efforts," explains Stark.

Also, since the first year WWRHA has offered clinics with some of the country's top reiners: Craig Johnson, Dick Pieper and Doug Milholland. Spring 1995 we sponsored a reining demonstration geared to 4-H groups and youth. This March WWRHA will hold a reining demonstration at the Horse-A-Fair at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, March 30 and 31. Come watch reining demonstrations done by several top Northwest reiners, stop by WWRHA booth to talk with club members and have lots of horsey fun at this free horse extravaganza.

WWRHA continues to grow in membership and in the level of competition offered. In June of 1996 WWRHA will hold their first NRHA sanctioned show. They will continue their five series shows, which begin in April, with Series for Year End Awards. And they will again sponsor the NRHA classes at the Puget Sound Quarter Horse Association's Show of Shows in July.

The club's NRHA sanctioned show will be held June 30 at the Evergreen Equestrian Park in Monroe, WA.
