The Egyptian Arabian

The Arab is a horse of great antiquity and has had more influence on other breeds throughout the world than any other horse. Originating in Arabia, it is now bred throughout the world and has, over the years, been crossed with all sorts of ponies and horses for up-grading purposes. Egyptian antiquities go back some 3000 years. The Arab historian, El Kelbi, writing in the 8th Century AD, traces the pedigrees of Arab horses back to the time of Baz, Noah's great-great grandson.

The oldest and purest of breeds, the Arab is a horse of exceptional beauty and refinement and quite distinctive appearance. Its lovely head with characteristically dished profile, broad forehead, large eyes and small muzzle, is carried high on an elegant neck. The body is compact and muscular, the legs slender but strong, and the coat mane and tail are silky, the latter being carried very high. The overall impression is of a gay, spirited horse, who nevertheless has the gentlest of dispositions. The Arab is renowned for its powers of endurance and ability to carry weight despite its relatively small size (14 to 15 hands high). It is excellent for long-distance riding.
