WWRHA Announces The Start of a Busy Season
Beginning on Easter Sunday, the Western Washington Reining Horse Association will kick off what promises to be a busy year with the first of its five-show series. The show is scheduled to start at 8:30am at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA and offers a wide variety of classes for all levels of riders.
From the beginning, WWRHA's mission has been geared towards developing and educating others about the sport. "At any of our shows, there are a number of well qualified and experienced trainers that would be more than glad to help answer questions or offer support for those just learning the sport of reining," says club president, Dan Stark, "and our classes are designed to help riders develop the confidence to go on to the bigger NRHA shows." This year's class list includes: Schooling, Green Reiner, Three Year-Olds (Foals of 1994), Green Team, Rookie Rider, Working Conformation (Foals of 1995-1997), NRHA Licensed Horse/ Open Rider, Youth (18 and under), Beginning Rider, Open, Novice Rider, Four Year Olds (Foals of 1993) and Non-Pro.
Dates and locations for the five-show series are: March 30th at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA; June 7th at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe, WA; June 29th at the Woodinville Riding Club in Woodinville, WA; August 2nd at Bridle Trails State Park in Kirkland, WA; and August 9th at Bridle Trails State Park in Kirkland, WA.
In order to recognize members' hard work and accomplishments throughout the season, WWRHA holds a banquet in the fall. High point awards are presented to qualifying riders in each class. This year, the highest scoring Non-Pro of the series will be presented with a club-sponsored trophy saddle.
In addition to this series, WWRHA will also be sponsoring its second NRHA sanctioned show and Four and Five Year-Old Derby on Sunday, June 8th in Monroe, with $1200 in added money. The club hopes to draw top-name, NRHA competitors in the future by expanding the event. "Among our goals is to make our Four and Five Year-Old Derby show become one of the largest on the west coast," Dan explains.
New to WWRHA will be the development and coordination of a stallion auction. Last year, the club was generously donated a breeding from Dave Belson to Doc N Jose and they are looking forward to expand on this idea in 1997.
