Youth of the Month: Patrick Flaherty

Patrick Flaherty is a 12 year old 6th grader at Midway Elementary in Colbert, Washington. He lives with his mom and dad and two sisters in Colbert on Shamrock Springs Ranch. Patrick has been showing his two Quarter Horse mares "San Doc Okie" (Sandy) and "Codys B Star" (Jody) since he was nine years old. He and his horses have put together quite a show record over the past four years.

In 1992 and 1993 Patrick won the Reserve Championship (Youth 13 and Under) on his horse Jody, and in 1994 and 1995 he won the Championship (Youth 13 and Under) on Sandy in the Reining Horse Association of the Northwest. In 1995 he was also 4th in the Rookie Class against riders of considerably more experience. Patrick and his horses also competed in the Washington Reining Horse Association shows and in several AQHA shows throughout the Northwest.

Patrick also plays roller hockey during the summer months. This past summer his team, "The Cobras," won the league championship, and he played basketball for the 6th grade Midway boys team which was 6-0 this season. He is an excellent student and a great help around the ranch. I am very proud of my son Patrick and wish him very good luck this coming show season.
