Appaloosa News: Six Winning Appaloosas & Two New Track Records Set In Idaho

MOSCOW, ID. - Appaloosas set a fast pace while racing at Rupert Downs in Rupert, Id. this July. Two of the six winning Appaloosas set new track records making Rupert Downs an exciting place to be this summer.

An Appaloosa and Paint Maiden race for two year-olds took place on July 3 with a total purse of $550. The 250 yard race had a winning time of :13.64. Claiming first place by a quarter of a length and a prize of $330 was MR STRAWBERRY FOX, owned by Rod Dahle of Lewiston, Ut. This two year-old red roan gelding set a new track record, defeating SUNNY MOON's 1976 record of :14.07. MR STRAWBERRY FOX, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of J & B LITTLE FOX, is trained by Kelly Walker; Dirk Crane, up.

Placing second by two and a quarter lengths in a dead heat with a Paint horse and earning $110 was HOMES, owned by Sam and Jody Purkett of Chubbuck, Id. The two year-old dark bay gelding, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of MISS ROUGH `N TOUGH (TB), is trained by Travis Saxton with Wes Smith in the irons.

Other Appaloosas placing were SHESKINDAEASY--4TH, GOLD EDITION--5TH, and NSH MS CHICLE GAME--6TH.

An Appaloosa Maiden race for three year-olds and older took place on July 3 with a total purse of $550. The winning time for this 300 yard race was :15.81. SHORTS' SHADOW, owned and trained by Donna Cronquist of Blackfoot, Id., won the race by a head and earned $330. The three year-old dark bay gelding, sired by NOBLE PRIDE (AQHA) and out of SHAWNE ROSE, had Chris Bowen in the saddle.

J & B SUM KINDA DARLIN, owned by Jack Lance of Idaho Falls, Id. placed second by three quarters of a length and earned $137.50. This three year-old chestnut mare, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of J&B LITTLE DARLIN, is trained by J.T. Smith with Dirk Crane in the stirrups.

Placing third and earning $82.50 was SOMEKINDA DON, owned by Marianne Dorscher of Salt Lake City, Ut. The three year-old chestnut gelding, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of CHANTDEE DAWN (AQHA), is trained by Greg Gift with Mike Carruth in the saddle.

Others placing were AC ENERGIZER--4TH, LDB EASY ANGEL--5TH, and SHY ALY--6TH.

An Appaloosa Allowance race for two year-olds took place on July 3 with a total purse of $650. The 330 yard race had a winning time of :17.34. FOOD A GO GO, owned and trained by Larry Jay Bowden of Ogden, Ut., won the race by one and a quarter lengths and earned $390. The two year-old bay mare, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of TIS A LITTLE FOOD, had Justin Vanderwoude in the saddle.

Placing second by three quarters of a length and earning $162.50 was BJH THUMPER, owned by Marion and Jenne Hayner of Layton, Ut. The two year-old dark bay gelding, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of JEANNES ANGEL (AQHA), is trained by Doug Trego; Bob Price, up.

Third place earnings of $97.50 went to SOUTHERN COMET EZ by a head. The dark bay gelding is owned by Jim and Lynda Evans of Salmon, Id., and trained by Gene Scott with Dirk Crane in the saddle. This two year old was sired by BCR AZURE ROCKET (AQHA) and out of SOUTHERN BELLE EZ.

Others placing were CHASEN HOLLYWOOD--4TH, J & B WILD CHILD--5TH, and HURRAH FOR ED--6TH.

An Appaloosa and Paint Allowance race for three year-olds and older with a total purse of $675 took place on July 4. The 350 yard race had a winning time of :17.97. REAL EASY TIME, owned by Lloyd and Valerie Willden of Shelley, Id., won the race by a head and earned $405. The five year-old chestnut mare, sired by REAL EASY JET (AQHA) and out of A TIME TO GO, is trained by Lloyd Willden with Denny Talbot in the saddle.

Taking second place by two lengths and earning $168.75 was MAKING ENDS MEET, owned and trained by Jim Hanson of Pocatello, Id. The six year-old bay gelding, sired by SUPER DE KAS (AQHA) and out of DONS STAR GIRL, had Ryan Hanson in the stirrups.

Third place honors by three quarters of a length and a prize of $101.25 went to WE GO STEPPING OUT, owned and trained by Tim Wells of Syracuse, Ut. This three year-old chestnut gelding, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of SHERRY T, had Todd Thomas in the irons.

Other Appaloosas placing were LDB SPECIAL SCOUT--5TH, and LOVE THIS CHICK--6TH.

The Rupert Appaloosa and Paint Futurity race took place on July 11 with a total purse of $950. The winning time for the 300 yard race was :15.92. First place honors and a prize of $570 went to FOOD A GO GO who won the race by one length. FOOD A GO GO is owned and trained by Larry Jay Bowden of Ogden, Ut. The two year-old bay mare, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of TIS A LITTLE FOOD, had Justin Vanderwoude in the saddle.

CHASEN HOLLYWOOD, owned by Travis and Wendy Saxton of Idaho Falls, Id., placed second by one and a quarter lengths and earned $237.50. Sired by DEREGULATE (AQHA) and out of PASS EM UP AGAIN, this two year-old bay roan gelding is trained by Travis Saxton; Wes Smith, up.

Third place by a neck and $142.50 went to LAST TAX AX, owned by Mike Hyde of Preston, Id. This two year-old dark bay mare, sired by THE TAX AX and out of TJS DREAM, is trained by Dustin Hollingsworth with Denny Talbot in the saddle.

Other Appaloosas placing were J&B WILD CHILD--4TH and SAINTS AVENUE--5TH.

The Rupert Paint and Appaloosa Derby race took place on July 11 with a total purse of $1400. This record-breaking 350 yard race had a winning time of :17.99. LDB SPECIAL SCOUT, owned and trained by Lynn C. Bowman of Pocatello, Id., won the race by three quarters of a length, earned $840, and defeated the old Appaloosa track record of :18.09 set by EASY FLASHER in July 1997. This three year-old gray mare, sired by CONVOY SCOUT (TB) and out of GO SPECIAL SAVAGE, had Ryan Hanson in the saddle.

FLYING T SPECIAL, sired by SOME KINDA EASY and out of PETITE WRANGLER, took second place by a head and earned $350. The three year-old chestnut gelding is owned by David Lemons of Idaho Falls, Id. and trained by Gene Scott; Dirk Crane, up.

Third place and $210 was earned by REALLY I EIGHTY FOUR, owned by Jack Erickson of Almo, Id. The three year-old bay gelding, sired by FOR REALLY (TB) and out of MISS I-64, is trained by Kevin Williams with Bob Price in the saddle.

Other Appaloosas placing were PASS EM CASH--4TH and R&D PATTY PAC--6TH.
